I think it was Neil Brennan that said this to me. It's a really, really great quote,

but he said that nothing in his career that's ever happened positively happened outside of a comedy

club. Everything great happened because of hanging out at a comedy club, performing at a comedy

club, or creating relationships with great

writers, performers, directors, producers at comedy club.

help you manage other comedians?

I'd say yes.

Emphatic yes.

I can't say that I was wildly successful as a comedian, even minimalistically successful.

But I did spend many, many years in comedy clubs, working comics, doing sets and seeing the process and seeing what they were doing right, seeing what they were doing wrong,

seeing what I was doing right, and what I was doing that wasn't working. And it really was an amazing training.

It was like a 10-year education of being in comedy clubs and theaters and colleges

and really understanding that side of the business.
