Summary

One of the most intriguing, humbling, and challenging aspects of being a parent is how our kids mirror who WE are.

And what’s really difficult are the societal — or cultural — norms shaping who we are as humans.
Who are we becoming as adults?
How are the decisions we make shaping our kids?
Do our unrealized emotions influence how resilient our kids are becoming?

As we continue our series on Raising Gen Alpha Kids, these are questions Dr. Josh and Christi address. Some highlights include:
  • What it means to “choose your hard”
  • How loneliness becomes a byproduct of self-protection
  • How silence plays itself out in marriage and the cost it has on our kids
  • What if you’re exhausted and can’t choose the hard thing?
  • The joy and “hard” of helping our kids build resilience

In this conversation, we have to be able to choose hard as parents. Because if we don't choose hard as parents,

0:07.0

we will not raise resilient children. That's it. Okay. So let me just say too, what's hysterical is

0:12.1

often historical. So hysterical meaning I react really strongly. So that feels like really, really hard.

0:18.2

Like I can't do that. It's because it's historical. There's a wound

0:21.1

there somewhere. It doesn't mean that it's actually the hardest thing. It's just what feels

0:24.7

hardest to you. And so it's easier if I exist behind this wall. So we like low grade suffer from

0:30.9

loneliness, disconnection, like where we, there's no emotional connection. We never feel like we

0:37.3

really belong because we're never fully like we really belong because we're

0:38.6

never fully showing up as ourselves because we're so afraid of feeling the hard thing. And what we

0:45.0

wanted to talk about is this the reality that like that hard thing that you're so afraid to endure

0:50.2

again is actually not going to kill you. In fact, I think it's probably the very thing that

0:55.2

will heal.

0:56.9

I won't lose hope in the night when the fire is growing down. I'll just let go and I'll try.

1:08.6

Help me walk this road and find my way back home.

1:14.6

Find my way back home.

1:31.5

So we're talking this season about the generations.

1:33.3

We're talking about Gen Alpha and Gen Z.

1:34.7

We're talking about mental health.

1:40.9

We're talking about how this has affected us as parents, how us as parents is affecting our kids. And we want to talk today, in extension from from last week about some of the things that we're

1:47.2

noticing in culture and some of the hard parts some of the hard parts of what we have been encountering

1:53.4

with our own children that we're encountering in our old lives if that is worry fear we talked about

1:59.8

that a lot last week.
