We're actually in the fourth and final part of this lesson that is titled,

the one and only promise keeper. If you all remember, chapter 6 verses 19 and 20 is

where we pick it up. However, let's read for context sake. Let's go all the way back to verse 13.

Hebrews chapter 6, verse 13. I'll read verse 13. You can read or I can read. I'll just read

for speed sake. Then when we get to the the text for tonight, we'll read it together. I'll take

it here. For when God made a promise to Abraham, promise, promise. Remember, promise to Abraham

because he could swear by no one greater. He, God, swore by himself. Technically, the Hebrew

would be in the Old Testament here in the Greek is that God could swear or shake hands with none

greater. So he shook hands with himself. Isn't that cool? It's like this. I do hear by solemnly

swear and God says to himself, I do hear by solemnly swear. Isn't that precious? I love it.

Saying, surely, blessing, I will bless you. That is Abraham. Multiply and I will multiply you.

And so after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. For men indeed swear by the

greater and in oath for confirmation is for them an end of all disputes. In other words, we've

signed the deal. We shook our hand. The argument's over. It's done. Thus God determining to show

more abundantly to the heirs of promise, the immutability, the unchangeableness of his counsel.

I love that. Confirmed it by an oath that by two immutable things, church family, the only two

immutable things, technically there's three, but this records two because the context demands it.

The three is the father, the son, and the Holy Spirit. The two mention here is the father and the son.

It's awesome. Beautiful. And so the two immutable things in which it is impossible for God to lie,

we might have strong consolation who have fled for refuge to lay hold on the hope set before us.

And before we read the rest of it, father, we pray in Jesus' name that this profound and awesome truth

would take hold in our hearts that would be the very catalyst by which we are a transformed people.
