Today we'll hear Marvin's 2019 interview with author and journalist Tim Carney, the commentary

editor at the Washington Examiner and a visiting fellow with the American Enterprise Institute.

His work focuses on economic competition, cronyism, civil society, localism, and religion in America.

His first two books had pretty provocative titles, The Big Rip-Off, How Big Business and Big Government Steal Your Money, came out in 2006.

Two years later, Carney published Obamomics, how Barack Obama is bankrupting you and enriching his Wall Street friends, corporate lobbyists, and union bosses.

Barvin had this conversation with Tim Carney not long after his latest book titled,

Alienating America, Why Some Places Thrive While Others Collapse.

Marvin called it a really good book, both incisive and fun to read.

Marvin Olasky joins us now to set up this interview with Tim Carney.

Now, Carney's research focuses on

changing communities and the toll that has taken on a whole host of social and economic issues.

What about his street-level observations stood out to you? His observations are really good because

he actually went around the country and listened to people.

He wasn't a reporter from Washington or New York who would just sit up in the air-conditioned office and suck his thumb and pound on the computer and say, what a good boy I am.

He went out, he listened to people, he got out into the hinterland, what some people call the flyover zone of deplorable people.

He listened and he listened hard.

And what he found out is that lots of people want a country that emphasizes both liberty and virtue and feel very alienated from the way our society is going where where none of the verities with which

these folks grew up with are still being honored, including family, including marriage,
