Okay, it's the middle of May, and this is Glob Culture. I'm John Podhortz in New York. I also wear New York Rob Long.

I'm John. And in Washington, Jonah Goldberg. Hi, Jonah. Hello, John.

Jonah, you were in New York a couple of weeks. Actually, you appear to be in New York quite a lot now because of your time on CNN.

But you were in New York for an extended period a couple of weeks ago where you, and I, and Rob, and our producer, Scott, and we're together in a room, or a couple of rooms.

For the first time, probably since before the pandemic, to commemorate the life and times of your mother, Lucianne Goldberg, at a wonderful event at the White Horse Tavern in Greenwich Village.

And it was fantastic to see you. Fantastic for us all to be together, as well as the dozens of people who are there for Lucianne and for you.

And I'm wondering if you, that for me, there was a side from spurring wonderful memories of the life and times of your mother and hang out with your mother and all that.

There was a very throwback feeling to the party in the sense that there were a lot of people from a lot of corners of the right, I would say.

And that really since 2015, I think we've all felt very atomized. And this was a rare occasion on which there was a sense that, you know, we were all pretty much on the same side or the same team.

Maybe we all were and that this was a specific corner of the right, I don't know, but yet people from your college life, you had people from your and our life, you had people from your dispatch life, you had people from, you know,

high school over the place. I had my repervate high school friends there too, who made quite an impression on a lot of people.

Yeah, no, I agree. I mean, the thing I think we are lightest on for melancholy reasons were right wingers of my mom's generation.

Because I mean, your dad is still with us, but he's not up to come in down to the white horse tavern, right?

And and all of my mom's more or less contemporaries, they're not all gone, but the ones who are not are fairly informed. And so that was kind of a strange thing that we are now approaching elder statesman status.

We'll be tied the right and just I mean, we should give a little backup just to explain to people what happened was so my mom would said more and once that she didn't want a few in a row, she wanted a party.

And I was not ready when my mom passed emotionally or in any other way to throw a party, right? You need to put a little passage of time between you, right?

And that kind of thing before you're ready to sort of have fun at something. I mean, my mom didn't need to do that. My mom could have fun at the drop of a hat, but normal humans don't usually operate that way.

And so I am trying to figure out a venue for this and sort of as an epiphany one day when driving past the white horse tavern, I was like, that's it, you know, and it's not because I love the white horse tavern. And it's not like the white horse tavern was my mom's favorite place, but it was one of her favorite places.

And in part because for listeners, they don't know white horse tavern is a storied hangout for hacks, literary figures, alienated authors of various kinds. I think the village voice was conceived of there.

There used to be graffiti over the urinals saying, carouac go home.
