Everybody sees the boy riding down the street, though mostly they ignore him.

In spite of the oddly regal way he has of swerving gently down the black top on that red

and white shwin, sending sheets of slush bounding left and right.

He doesn't garner much attention, except for little Carol and Johnny that is, who are

playing in front of the store where Johnny's father works.

He sees little Johnny looking at the bike and makes a long, slow turn on the wet street.

His face is turned up in a smile.

Even though Johnny and Carol can barely see his eyes through the glare of his glasses.

He slides to stop in front of them, spraying slush on the sidewalk, and they laugh and

clap.

You kids like my bike?

He asks them, and they both nod.

It sure is a swell looking bike after all.

They can barely even see the boy riding it for all its glory.

He asks.

For both four, and Johnny tells the boy so.
