It’s November 15th. On this day in 2011, the NYPD issued orders to clear the encampment at Zuccotti Park in lower manhattan, that had been the site of the Occupy Wall Street protests since the fall.

This day, November 15, 2011, New York City begins to clear out the Occupy Wall Street

encampment at Zuccotti Park in Lower Manhattan.

At about 1 a.m. police handed out notices from the

park's owner, Brookfield Office properties, with the city backing up the move

basically stating that the park had to be cleared because it had become unsanitary and hazardous.

Protesters had occupied the park for almost two months at this point with up to 200 people

living there semi-perminently and at times up to a thousand or so gathered in the small park.

Protesters were told that they could return but they couldn't bring back

sleeping bags, tarps or tents so this was really the end of the permanent

encampment at Succotti Park.

So this is our chance to talk about both that encampment itself as a physical space,
