Summary

Another turbulent week in politics...

Andrew Marr, the soon-to-be-ex-Sunday-morning-TV-host, drops by to reflect on his career (and pore over the shock by-election result in Shropshire). Laura makes a late appearance after news breaks that Simon Case (the person currently investigating lockdown Xmas parties at Downing Street) was also at a seasonal office get-together last year. And Adam hears from Dr Maryam Khosravi, an intensive care doctor in London, about how she is preparing for Omicron.   Today’s Newscast was made by Sam Bonham with Ben Cooper, Georgia Coan, Alix Pickles and Danny Wittenberg. Emma Crowe was the studio director. Jonathan Aspinwall was the editor.

Hello, now it's occurred to me over the last few days

0:07.0

that when we talk about the Omicron wave and the threat to the NHS,

0:10.9

we've been talking about that threat in a sort of, kind of, theoretical way.

0:15.1

And wouldn't it be good to hear from somebody who's sitting there on the front line

who's an intensive care doctor in London. Hello, Dr. Mariam.

0:29.2

Hello, Adam. How are you?

0:30.8

Very well, thank you. And I'm so grateful that you're taking some time out

0:33.5

of what is presumably a very busy time for you.

0:35.9

Yes, it is. Yeah, we're used to waxing and waning

0:40.1

of the population with illness, but over the past couple of years,

0:45.5

we've just had to get used to something completely different.

0:48.5

And yeah, here we are again.

0:51.1

A big feeling of deja vu, I have to say.

0:53.5

And also presumably a feeling of just real tiredness.

0:56.4

I mean, as you said, you've been doing this for two years now.

0:58.4

Yeah, I think so. I think there's been differences with every surge.

1:03.4

And I remember the more vividly based on the emotions that I felt

1:09.2

going into first surge and then the second and the third and the fourth.

1:12.9

And I think the emotions change slightly every time you prepare to do it again.
