Mark Barbosa, 25, and two of his friends, high school students Matt Self and Austin York, were just hanging out for the night on March 12, 2004.

They were getting some pizza at a chain in McKinney, Texas, and, when they were finished, decided to head to Mark's aunt's home as part of a routine check he did on his fellow neighbors.

What they didn't know was that three men had followed Rosa Barbosa home from her job at a check cashing store and had begun to hold her hostage to

try and get access to the money inside. So when the three boys walked inside, they found Mark's aunt

in a dire situation. The thing was the gunmen, Eddie Williams, Javier Cortez, and Raul Cortez were just as shocked

to see the young boys.

They weren't expecting to be interrupted.

They thought that they could get access to the store with the help of Rosa and be on their

way.
