We are now in the age of decentralisation of social media, just  5-7 years ago there were just a handful of big social media platforms we all used. Now there are more challengers emerging, such as tiktok and clubhouse. Listen in to this podcast with Rob to hear all about this in detail and how you can actually use it to leverage your social media game. But it’s not if you break it down, it actually gives you more opportunities. It’s easier now than it has ever been to go viral, you just have to work smart. Learn what works and utilise other peoples success to your benefit. It’s no longer as important to have a massive following, it’s not a followers numbers game anymore. What matters I regular content posting, consistency, learning from your analytics, testing new styles and learning from influencers. Social media platforms now compete for creators and creators earn money this way. Oh, it's not about how big it is. It's what you do with it. Yeah, but it needs to be

0:03.9

of a certain size to fulfill its potential.

We're right now in the age of decentralization and social media. What does that mean? What

0:14.0

it means is, five, seven years ago, there was YouTube, Facebook, you know, there were three

0:20.8

or there was LinkedIn, but that was kind of dying, wasn't it? You know, Instagram was obviously

0:25.7

bought by Facebook, but pre-instagram, which is really now Facebook. WhatsApp is now owned

0:30.8

by Facebook. So there was only a few social channels for quite a long time. There's some

0:35.3

big dominant ones. Now there's a lot of challenger social media channels and there's social media

0:41.7

channels that they have their own channels within them. So let me just say what they

0:45.4

are against. Clubhouse is a challenger social media channel. TikTok is a challenger social

0:50.8

media channel. Greenroom is a challenger social media channel. But then you've got

0:55.5

Facebook who are doing this Facebook lives and Facebook pages and Facebook groups and

1:01.7

Facebook stories. Facebook is setting up a new audio based platform. I'll talk about

1:06.7

that in the audio influencer section. Instagram went IGTV, reels to directly compete

1:14.7

with TikTok. Instagram, I've got stories as well. So you've got the challenger channels

1:21.3

and then you've got the channels within the channels. So actually Instagram and Facebook

1:26.1

are about 12 channels and that can be really overwhelming. But it can mean that you

1:32.3

have way more virality. Okay. So this is what's going on right now. It's just the reality.

1:38.6

I haven't made this up. I'm not telling you how I want it to be. I'm telling you how

1:43.0

it is. And so what I want to help you do is leverage this. So when I was starting on

1:50.8

social media, I built up about 150,000 followers on Facebook and I mostly dedicated my time

1:58.0

to Facebook. I built up a similar number and maybe a bit less on LinkedIn. So I'm a sort
