and I want to get right to it. The subject matter for our episode today is the New Bedford Highway

serial killings of the late 1980s. 1988 it started in New Bedford, Massachusetts. I was lucky enough to score an interview with a reporter

named Maureen Boyle. Maureen was a reporter at the New Bedford Standard Times during this

time frame, and she covered the crime beat for the New Bedford Falls River area. She got to know the

players and the suspects in this

case quite well. So she was an expert in this case and then she went on to write a book about it.

The book is called Shallow Graves, The Hunt for the New Bedford Highway serial killer by

Maureen Boyle.

I've read this book and it's fantastic.

It's an amazing account of the case.

She really does a great job in humanizing the victims in the police in this case.

They call them the New Bedford Highway serial killings, but it was really regional. Bodies were found in New Bedford, Marion, Fairhaven, all over the place in that Route 140 corridor by New Bedford.

And this case was horrible. This guy was killing people at a rate we had never seen before, especially in Massachusetts.

There were several problems in this case because forensics was just at a different place.
