Summary

They don't make 'em like they used to... and that's certainly evident in the case of The NeverEnding Story. It's nearly impossible to imagine a movie with imagery like this being marketed to kids today.  Maybe that's one reason it resonated so strongly with our generation -  its most memorable moments were probably the most traumatic. All three of us loved this as kids, it gets requested all the time, and we couldn't wait to take another look at it.

Topics include: how much the author of the novel hated this adaptation, the differences between the U.S. and German cuts of the film, the amazing performances of these young actors, the initial aimlessness of Atreyu's mission and an easy fix for that, the terrible fate of Artax and why maybe its not such a bad way to go after all,  some unexpectedly conflicted feelings about Falcor, the reason it makes sense to end the movie at the book's halfway point, why the sequels are really where they drop the ball when it comes to deviating from the source material, and much much more!

At least that's what the lyrics to the film's theme song would have us believe.

But not only is there no answer to the never-ending story, as depicted in the movie,

viewers probably weren't even aware there was a question.

The title was never really explained in this 1984 adaptation of Michael N's epic fantasy novel, and it's one of many reasons that the normally reserved author publicly denounced it.

End initially worked closely with director Wolfgang Peterson on the script,

but would later accuse Peterson of rewriting all of it behind his back. The director maintained that

unfortunate destiny of every writer who's lucky enough to have their work optioned. But the
