So welcome to our Rosary meditation.

I am blessed this evening to be with Randy Salisbury, the president of Meage High School, one of our

fantastic Catholic high schools here in Kansas City and with a group of his friends they've been gathering on Monday

nights for this movement to live this simple way of life for friendship, the Rosary and good conversation,

and I'm so blessed to be invited to join them this evening.

So with this meditation, we're going to reflect on temperance. We've moved out of

fortitude, we're moving into temperance and over the next few days we'll look at what temperance is, how to avoid sin in general,

and then in particular how to avoid the seven deadly sins.

So let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

And let's call to mind all those that we've promised to pray for.

I especially want to pray for little Olivia Caneli

for the healing of her seizure clusters,

asking for the intercession of Blessed Pauline Jericho and for the continued strengthening of

Junie Sherman as she unites her suffering to the suffering of Jesus with her cancer in order to save souls.

And I will pause and you can add your own prayer intention silently.

Our first meditation, to the end of our life,

we will struggle against temptation.

1:53.0

As a result of original sin, we have a fallen human nature in which our passions, our desires,

sometimes pull us toward what is bad for us and push us away from what is good for us.

Temperance is the virtue that moderates, harnesses, and redirects our desires. It prevents us from doing the wrong thing even when we have strong feelings for it.

In other words, temperance is what keeps us from sinning even when we want to.
