On April 15th of 2005, Ray Frank Greichar vanished from Western Pennsylvania, setting off an almost two decades long

mystery.

As you'll hear in this episode, significant questions and conjecture surround Grecar's case,

and this includes speculation that his disappearance is connected to one of the largest scandals in US higher education.

We were able to review select police files from the case thanks to research conducted by Rebecca

Knight,

host of the podcast Final Argument,

the disappearance of Ray Grecar.

Knight's mission with the podcast

is to see a statewide grand jury convene to investigate Ray's presumed murder.

And her podcast debunked some much discussed case details and misinformation.

Fair warning, however, that the show appears to be on a hiatus.

When he vanished, Ray Grecar was a well-respected district attorney of Center County, Pennsylvania, a position that he held since 1985.

The county that Grecar represented includes State College, which is home to the Pennsylvania State University, better known as Penn State. But more on that, later.

Shortly before he disappeared, Grecar had announced that he would not seek re-election,

effectively retiring after a 20-year career, come December of 2005. At the time, Grecar was living with his girlfriend of four years, Patty Fornacola, and their dog Honey.
