But in 2006, she left her home country for Fort Myers, Florida. She moved with Coltar, her husband of five years and their two-year-old son, Devon.

Repinder joined the staff at Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center as part of an exchange program welcoming nurses from India.

While in the states on a work permit, she hoped to raise Devon and to support her loved ones back home.

The school, however, would become challenging, largely due to her husband's jealous and abusive behavior.

While Repinder earned a good salary as a registered nurse, Coltar worked at a convenience store and he was reportedly quite envious of his wife's success.
