When we hear the words murder and school in the same sentence, most will unfortunately think of all the children lost to school shooters.

This case, though set at a prestigious school in Massachusetts, has a different type of victim.

On September 14, 1934, a headmaster was shot and killed inside of his home in a case that, though a likely suspect was found, remains unsolved to this day.

In the year 1934, when our story takes place, the Mount Hermann Preparatory School for Boys, situated in Northfield, Massachusetts, was a place of education, camaraderie, and growth.

Founded by American evangelist Dwight Moody, Mount Herman and its sister school, the Northfield Seminary for Young Ladies,

was created in the premise that children from all around the country, no matter their social status,

could obtain a prestigious private education. Hoping to, in catering to those who are, quote, denied

opportunity, usually due to financial hardship, Dwight hoped to create generations of devoted Christians

who would continue his work serving those less fortunate.
