In the Island Nation of Barbados, tucked away in the cemetery of Christ Church, parish church,

stands a sealed stone chamber half above and half below ground, simply known as the Chase Vault.

This crypt holds a dark and bizarre reputation dating back to the early 19th century.

The legend centers on a small collection of coffins, all but one of them heavy, lead-line caskets

that belonged to the Chase family and others, interred inside the vault from around 1807 to 1812.

The entrance was secured by a massive stone slab, a door so heavy it reputedly required six

or seven men to move.

Furthermore, this massive stone was typically cemented shut by Masons.

Yet, starting in 1812, every time the vault was reopened for a new burial, those who

appeared inside were met with chaos.
