published in 1923 and then republished in 1936 by The Bodley Head as part of the Penguin series.

It is officially Penguin Number 6A, which makes it a bit of an anomaly though.

debuted in 1935 was the Mysterious Affair at Stiles also by Agatha Christie. But this was

pulled from the series soon after publication

and quickly replaced by the Murder on the Links for Future Reprits. This happened

because of a contractual misunderstanding. Alan Lane had been trying to save money on the original 10 Penguins

then publisher of the Penguin series, already owned the rights to. He and colleagues

Affaret styles, they could therefore include it in their new series at no extra cost.
