Arlington Police Detective Sergeant Dennis Roten told Fort Worth Star Telegraphs, Denise Hensley, in a six-year anniversary article about 18-year-old Cheryl Ann Calloway's case.

I seek Calloway's murderer.

I just hope he's not dead so I can get him.

Sergeant Roten remarked in 1980 that Cheryl Calloway was a household name in 1974.

The community was in shock and infuriated then, but now folks no longer remembered. But he did, the detective told the article's author.

Roten was a patrolman when Cheryl was slain and was admittedly overzealous in his attempts to find her killer's vehicle at the time, once pulling over and questioning the same car a second time.

Luckily, the driver of the vehicle was understanding when the officer explained that he wasn't

trying to harass him.

Sergeant Roten, although correct in a general sense, perhaps, meaning the public at large had

gone about their lives to rarely think of the horrific ice-pick murder as it became known. He was incorrect about folks no longer remembering.

Even after going on to other jobs in the area, initial investigators Mike Lehman and Mike Adair remembered Cheryl too.

They got to know Cheryl's family and by proxy Cheryl herself.
