I'm Anya, and today we're going to talk about a rather unusual wrinkle in the Murdoch

0:05.3

murders case. Content warning, this episode contains discussion of murder. Okay, so this is a bit of an

0:14.5

unusual situation all around. I'm sure many of you who have been following this, you know, pretty

0:20.6

high profile case, are aware that Alec Murdoch, a previously convicted murderer who was convicted of murdering his wife, Margaret or Maggie and his son Paul on June 7th, 2021 at the family's hunting lodge in South Carolina, his conviction was

0:40.2

overturned by the South Carolina Supreme Court. The reason it was overturned was that the South

0:47.1

Carolina Supreme Court, upon, you know, weighing both sides of the case, felt that the possibility

0:53.8

of a court clerk named Becky Hill having an

0:57.9

impact on the original trial jury by basically coming around and making statements about

1:03.8

Alec Murdoch, they felt like the possibility of that depriving Murdoch of a fair trial

1:08.7

was too high to let it stand. So already, I mean,

1:13.9

this is pretty weird, right? It is. You don't normally have this, right? But, you know,

1:20.4

that happened. But now it's getting even we're getting even weirder. So let's just think about this.

1:25.6

It's 2026. We're recording this on May 26. I think it's going to come out next week. He was convicted March 2nd, 2023, and the murders were June 7th, 2021. So this is already like a very long saga. But now we're adding to it because one thing that came out after this news of the overturned conviction broke was that Murdoch is now suing Becky Hill.

1:52.1

So we got our hands on his filing in the lawsuit and we're going to talk about this.

1:59.5

It has more, I mean, here's the thing,

2:01.8

it has some more details about what Murdoch's team is claiming happened with Hill and what

2:07.6

they're saying was unfair. I do think it is important when we're reading something like this

2:12.5

that we acknowledge that, okay, it's from one side, right, Kevin?

2:18.4

Right.

2:19.2

And not necessarily just sort of interpret things through one side's viewpoint.

2:25.5

But we can certainly talk about it and sort of talk about the implications,

2:29.7

talk about what's said to have happened, at least from one side,
