Dear listener, this week we're re-broadcasting part two of the moving border.

It's our award-winning series, Exploring Asylum, and the somewhat secretive partnership between Mexico and the US.

This story aired originally in May of 2020 when border policies were being made under the Trump administration.

Things have changed since then, but just how much have they?

We're going to be exploring that question later this year as we continue our moving border series and delve into border policy under the Biden administration.

So we have just landed in Dapatrula and it could not be more different than Juarez.

It's Saturday, January 11, 2020, and I've just landed in a small airport in Dapatrula on Mexico's southern border with Guatemala.

Literally we went from the northernmost border in Mexico to the southernmost border.

We crossed the entire country of Mexico.

I checked my phone, no messages. Inside the airport I rushed to baggage claim.

I'm recording just in case he's outside.

I don't see anybody.

I look at every young man I pass, hoping he'll be here, waiting for me.
