John Delinn. It is May 20th, 2024 and we are welcoming you to Second Anointing Week on Mormon Stories Podcast. We are going to be dedicating three, four,

maybe even five episodes to the super secret Mormon Ordinance called the second anointing.

Brian, what is the second anointing?

So the second anointing is the last and likely least known of the Mormon temple ordinances. People are very likely heard of

Baptists for the dead, the Washington anointing, sometimes called the

initiatory, and then the endowment. But there's also this other ordinance called

the second anointing that some people get, not nearly as many

as the other ones, and it has had some secrecy associated with over the years.

And so as a result, a lot of people, even lifetime Mormons, may not have heard of this.

Brilliant.

And for those of you who have been longtime Mormon stories,

fans or super-fans, you'll know that we introduced the second anointing

to a lot of Mormons through our very early episode with Tom Phillips.

I'm going to say back in 2014-ish, and you know Tom Phillips was a high-level leader in the Mormon Church in the UK

who ended up receiving his Second Endowment, but then losing his faith and then

coming on Mormon stories to talk about it.

So let me just tell you how Second Anointing Week is going to go down.

So this is going to be episode one, which is a history of the second anointing.

Episode two is going to be an interview with this gentleman sitting running right in front of me.
