Artificial intelligence looks set to become the most important technology of this century,

which means the titans of the industry will likely continue to accrue enormous wealth and enormous power.

And the most famous of the AI executives of Sam Altman and Elon Musk, the CEOs of OpenAI and

XAI, and both appear to love making bold claims about the future of humanity and their public

battles with each other, keep them in the headlines.

However, when it comes to the key leaders in the AI world, there is a more unassuming CEO

who is just as likely to control the machines and

algorithms that get us to AGI or artificial general intelligence. Demis Hibis is a former child

prodigy, a Nobel laureate, and the co-founder and CEO of Google Deep Mind, whose AI model Gemini

is one of the frontier large language models. And Hussabas is also a subject of a new best-selling biography by two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist,

Sebastian Malaby.

The book is called the Infinity Machine, Demis Hesabas, Deep Mind and the Quest for Super Intelligence.

It very much falls in the wheelhouse of topics I find completely fascinating.

So I was delighted Sebastian was up for an interview. In this conversation, we discussed

what makes deep mind stand out as a company. We debated whether Demis Asabas can be trusted

to control AI and also whether the capitalist logic of the AI industry,

makes it harder to avoid an AI catastrophe.
