recently of topics and one of the ones that I really wanted to do that got narrowly defeated to make it in was

Overrated and underrated by

Analytics. Those are a great listener suggested topic that I thought would be really good especially because I think it's a good window

Into talking about what analytics can really miss and I think we're gonna start here is just this was something that was suggested on Twitter

So I don't blame the the listener for not being more specific than just saying analytics

But we should probably just begin by discussing what we really mean when we talk about analytics because there could be you know

That could be essentially the entire world of basketball information

Absolutely and even if we wanted to to narrow the field to a specific you know like group of people or a specific way of thinking

They don't always necessarily value exactly the same things or importantly value them to the same degree

So it could be maybe defensive rebounding

Grabbing the rebound is more important to some people and some models than others where maybe it's about your team getting the rebound and all those sorts of ideas

And it's not a monolith. It's not rigidly a hive mind or anything like that though

There can be elements where people think the same way that you know you kind of get on some more wavelengths

I think you and I both get into that mode sometimes too and so you can't say like oh well a single metric whether whatever that

Single thing is that is representative of analytics because no single thing is representative of analytics

Yeah, I think that the analytics boogie man that I think there's two that have really been

Probably overhiked in terms of the negative attention that they've gotten in traditional media among more traditional coaches and players

For example as well one of them is just the idea of shot location and you should never take a mid-range anymore

It should be all dunks and threes that that overly simplistic approach although generally those shots tend to be the best ones

That's not so much what we're talking about here
