During the early morning hours of August 20th, 2016, the daughters of 56-year-old Martha Montoya,

whose names were omitted due to the age of the victims, called 911 because their stepfather

had just attacked their mother with a knife. She was laying down, unconscious, bleeding, and fading quickly.

Martha Montoya moved from Cali, Colombia in the 1980s to try to find a better life for herself.

She ended up in Florida in the town of Lake Worth, which is south of Palm Beach and Palm Beach County

and north of Miami on the east coast. After settling in Fort Worth, Martha found a job at the

Breaker's Hotel in Palm Beach, a very high-end resort, whose rooms can cost well over $2,000 a night. She ended up working there over 23 years. While working there, she had her two daughters. With being single and having two daughters to support, her salary alone wasn't quite enough.

She let a friend move in as a roommate to help with some of the bills.

This friendship turned into more of a romantic relationship and she ended up marrying him later on.
