My name is Will DeFries and this is the Sunday Scaries podcast. You're here for the Sunday Blues.

On today's episode we're going to talk about my new favorite brunch drink, seasonal effective disorder, and the most anxious nights of the year.

0:30.0

I was hungover. Like really hungover. In fact, I may still have carried a slight buzz with me when I woke up that morning.

0:49.0

I was in New York City. The city that on pretty much every other occasion I've been there has chewed me up and spit me out.

0:58.0

While I can't exactly pinpoint when I went to bed, I know it was late. Really late.

1:05.0

When I finally woke up after my almost certainly terrible night of sleep, I sprung out of bed, which was a little weird.

1:12.0

That was before my splitting headache knocked me back down.

1:16.0

I knew I didn't have much time left in the city, so I had to make the most of it.

1:20.0

I wanted to go to a clothing store before we met up with some friends for brunch, and this forced us to get up probably a little earlier than I would have liked.

1:26.0

When we finally got to Manhattan from Brooklyn, that morning drunk feeling I still had caused me to get a little too free with my credit card at the aforementioned store.

1:36.0

Did I need to make a big purchase that day? No. Did I anyway because retail therapy is even more fun on vacation? Absolutely.

1:46.0

It wasn't until we arrived at the restaurant where we began meeting with our friends and that my buzz finally began to wear off and I started feeling the effects of my hangover.

1:55.0

My headache ramped up again, my stomach began to turn, and I even had to leave the table to go get a little alone time in the bathroom, like actual alone time where I just sat in the stall and took some deep breaths and thought about life.

2:09.0

Needless to say, I was in a bad place.

2:13.0

Where should we go next, they asked upon my return? I gulped. Next?

2:19.0

There must have been some fear in my voice, or at least a complete lack of color in my face.

2:25.0

Being cold outside, we decided to uber to another restaurant where we'd relax, have a couple drinks, and be on our merry way before getting back into the night's festivities.

2:34.0

I'm not sure who it was, but they noted that looked like I was on my last legs, and frankly, yeah, I was.

2:41.0

My friend told me that he had just the cure. A loaded tokate.

2:46.0

The name itself signals that it was different than just a regular tokate, a well-known and somewhat popular cheap Mexican beer, but I wasn't really sure how.

2:56.0

I had one when I was really hungover he told me, and it cured everything.

3:01.0

With nothing to lose, literally nothing. I gave him the nod.
