Mayor Mitch Landrieu of New Orleans, fresh from removing the last of four

Confederate monuments, talks about race, reconciliation, and rebuilding, not just

for a city, but for the country.

And he does it with a passion you won't soon forget.

Great, thank you for having me.

You know, you've been a little busy of late.

Well, you know, we've been rebuilding one of the great cities of the world and it's been quite a ride.

The last couple of weeks have been a little bit more intense and normal because of, you know,

this fairly difficult issue we've been dealing with about trying to make sure

that the people of New Orleans know that they have a right to curate their own

public spaces and it of course it includes a discussion of Confederate war

monuments and you know the people they're very open and robust

process a couple years ago decided to take them down and since that

happened there has been a huge mounted national resistance to that with a number of different

lawsuits but there were three open community hearings and city council

hearings and there were 13 judges that reviewed this thing on the state

local and federal level and we got about you know following the law last week and we
