Sun Wukong (the Monkey King) is born from a stone egg on Flower and Fruit Mountain. He seeks immortality and invincible strength in battle. Soon, the Jade Emperor hears about all the trouble he is creating on Earth and decides to give him a job so that he can keep an eye on him.

We are partly publishing this to fill a gap in our Chinse Years of the Animals Cycle (hence the mention to people born in the Year of the Monkey).

0:09.2	According to the Chinese horoscope, people born in the Year of the Monkey are clever, inventive and quick to solve problems.
0:18.6	They can also be vain, impatient, and sometimes, well, a bit naughty.
0:25.6	This is a Chinese story about a monkey who takes all of that and turns it up to maximum.
0:33.6	His name is Sun Wukong and he is the hero or anti-hero of the Chinese epic tale, The Journey to the West.
0:45.8	Sun Wukong hatched from a stone egg on flower fruit mountain. He grew up to become the monkey king of his island.
0:54.4	But even that wasn't enough for him.
0:57.4	He wanted to live forever.
0:59.8	So he went off to study with a wise master,
1:03.0	who perhaps unwisely taught him the secrets of immortality
1:07.9	and how to leap through the sky from cloud to cloud in a single somersault,

1:24.7	High above the world in the Palace of Divine Mists, the Jade Emperor sat upon his throne, surrounded by officials.
1:33.3	One day, two important visitors arrived, both looking extremely annoyed.
1:40.3	The first was the Dragon king of the East Sea.
1:45.1	He knelt down and kissed the ground before the emperor's feet,
1:48.9	before lifting his head to say,
1:52.3	Oh, great emperor, I must complain about the most troublesome monkey.
1:58.5	The emperor raised an eyebrow.
2:01.4	A monkey, you say?
2:04.4	Yes, said the dragon king.
