Hello, good morning, Paul.

And we're going to have a retrospective on Brexit. There's obviously quite a lot to say about

Brexit and the condition of Britain now. But I thought since the modcast has recently taken a historical turn,

we go back into the past and think about it.

And I want to try and start in this way that built into the referendum

was the fact that you were voting yea or nay, but you couldn't know

what sort of a deal we would get.

Indeed, you couldn't know that there would be a deal at all.

This wasn't, as far as I know, like some previous referendums.

So I think in the Scottish and Welsh referendums, Parliament passed a bill.

The scheme was on the table.

The voters knew what they were voting for.

So right from the start, there was a peculiarity about the Brexit referendum.

What do you think about this? And do you

think it was ideal? Well, you've written about this, and I thought your piece was extremely interesting.

Actually, I read it twice because it was first on conservative film, and then it was reprinted in the Times.

And it bears rereading twice twice because there are so many important

steps along the way.
