20-year-old Ezra Simon Daniels, who lived with his grandparents, Lewis and Beatrice Simon, had a pretty ordinary evening. He had pizza at home in the living room. He practiced his guitar, and he went to bed.

Just before 6 a.m., he woke up. He was in his grandfather's Audi. The engine was still running
