As a climax to a bitter quarrel in an apartment house at 15 Harrison Street last night,

Mrs. Cleo Winborn, wife of Robert L. Windbourne, a barber at 63 Marion

Street, shot and killed Mrs. Emma Scarwin, sent a bullet through the hip of her daughter, Miss Betty

Scarwin, a stenographer, and ended her life by shooting herself through the head. Jealousy of Betty

Scarwin caused the shooting, according to Winborn.

Mrs. Windbourne, who was 48 years old, called at the Scarwin apartment at 8 o'clock last night.

Tenants of the apartment house say they heard quarrelling in the Scarwin apartment for an hour before the sound of a pistol

cracking were heard. At the city hospital, Betty Scarwin told this story, quote, Mrs. Windbourne,

whom mother and I had known for 12 years, called on us tonight. She began to quarrel with me right

away, as she had often done before.

She seemed to think that I was unduly attentive to her husband. Nothing could be further from the

truth. Mother was in the kitchen tonight when suddenly Mrs. Winborn drew a revolver. I struck at her

arm as she pointed the revolver at me. the bullet lodged in my leg. I started to

run out of the sitting room just as mother came running in, startled at the shot. Mrs.

Windbourne turned the revolver on my poor mama and shot her dead. In an instant, she clapped the

revolver to her own head and shot herself, unquote.

The girl told a similar story to motorcycle patrolman N. P. Anderson, who was one of the first to

arrive at the scene of the tragedy. The slain woman was 44 years old and a widow. To acting captain of detectives James Doom,

Winborn told a story of misdirected suspicion by his wife. Quote, both my wife and I have

known Mrs. Scarwin and her daughter 12 years. My wife was unreasonably jealous of Betty,
