Summary

Welcome back to The MinnMax Show! On this week's special episode, Ben Hanson is joined by the co-director of the Video Game History Foundation Kelsey Lewin and Digital Eclipse's Editorial Director Chris Kohler to try to better understand Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto. This isn't an interview with the man, unfortunately. We talk about our experiences interacting with the creator of Donkey Kong, Mario, and The Legend of Zelda and share insightful quotes from interviews he's done throughout the decades. This is inspired by this week's big premiere of the Super Mario Bros. movie from Illumination. Then we answer questions submitted on Patreon by the community and award the iam8bit question of the week! You can win a prize and help make the show better by supporting us on Patreon and leaving a question! https://www.patreon.com/minnmax

Hello, everybody. Welcome to a new episode of the Mid-Max Show podcast

0:23.6

plays about games, friends, and getting better. My name is Ben Hansen and I thank

0:27.4

thee for being here. I'm joined by the co-director of the Video Game History

0:32.8

Foundation, Kelsey Lewin. Hi, that's me, the only person here who is not

0:37.5

interviewed Shigeru Miyamoto. I'm sure that won't come up at any point during

0:40.9

this episode. We're also joined by the editorial director from Digital Eclipse

0:44.6

Chris Kohler. Hello. Hello. Welcome back to the show. I think last time you're

0:48.6

on, you're talking about the Kalbonga collection, the TMNT collection. That

0:53.6

sounds about right. All those old stories and stuff. So nice to have you back.

0:56.2

Congratulations. I guess we haven't kissed your ass on a podcast at least about

0:59.5

Atari 50, but that thing for good rules. Thank you very much. Has there been

1:04.9

like a surprising amount of feedback for that or like one piece of feedback that

1:08.3

really stands out more than the others for you? I think what's really exciting for

1:13.4

us is that when we hear from people who are like, I didn't grow up with Atari.

1:17.8

Like, I don't really play Atari games, but this was really interesting to me. Or, you

1:23.6

know, I once I kind of experienced the interactive documentary of Atari 50, now I

1:30.2

can play some of these games and I appreciate the work that was put into them or

1:35.0

how they had to get made. And it makes me appreciate it more, which is like,

1:38.7

you know, it's like, wow, tell me more about precisely what we were trying to do

1:43.0

with this collection. So to get that kind of feedback, that's the one we really

1:46.8

love to hear. Yeah, totally. And like, you know, I didn't grow up with Atari stuff at all,

1:50.1

but I played every game in there. And I think the one that popped the hardest for me was
