So we're trying something new today,

a little segment at the beginning of an episode that we are calling Top of Mind,

where I kind of share more brief thoughts,

ideally that are relevant to the larger episode,

or maybe bring somebody on to talk about something that's been on my mind recently, that relates in some way.

And sometimes I'll do these by myself, like today.

Sometimes I'll do them with a guest.

And the topic for today's top of mind, the inaugural top of mind segment, is something that I

could probably get Josh and Tony's take on next month in our Generation Gap Culture Hour.

So somebody remind me to do that, Josh, remind me to do that. But basically, Richard Reeves,

if you guys have heard of him, he's a British American scholar and author, and he focuses on challenges facing boys and men in modern society. I've mentioned him before on the show. But as a refresher for like why this is an issue, his most concerning findings include that boys and men are falling behind in education,

mental health, and employment with significant declines in college attendance, increasing

rates of suicide and overdose deaths, and a lack of positive identity or social role in what he

calls a post-industrial gender equalizing society, which I think is not the

worst couple of terms to describe our current culture.

Anyway, this is something that is often hard for liberals to talk about.

You know, we can feel like, hey, I've just caught my breath from women kind of catching up

after, I don't know, 200,000 years of men being on top. And I totally understand that perspective.

But that nonetheless, there still is a problem. I'll talk about psychology. Twice as many women as

men utilize talk therapy these days in the United States. Twice as many.
