Now, we've got good news, and I've got bad news.

The good news is the New York Mets went to Detroit and won two out of three against the Tigers.

That's pretty good.

That's a good team.

That's one of the better teams in the American League.

The bad news is the way they lost this afternoon is kind of eerily familiar to a lot of the issues that they have run into at times this season.

Number one, the starting pitching.

Clay Holmes wasn't bad, per se, and I disagreed with Carlos Mendoza taking him out when he did.

Right, two outs, bottom of the fourth, two on.

Bottom of the fifth, two on.

Yes.

And his pitch count was in the mid-80s.

And so Clayhomes wasn't bad, but he gets pulled with two on and two out in the fifth inning.

So issue number one, not getting length from their starting pitching from guys not named Nolan McLean and sometimes David Peterson.

Issue number two, the bullpen.

We thought the bullpen would be a strength. Gregory Soto got off to a really good start after the trade with Baltimore. He has not been good in his last handful appearances, and he gave up the lead by giving up a two-run single after he replaced Clay Holmes. So number one, you're not getting length from your starting pitching. Number two, your bullpen's not very good. We saw Ryan Housley come into this game.

It was three to two.

It was close.

The Mets were on the precipice are coming back. And Ryan Housley lit the game on fire. That's the other issue. Yep. The third issue, and this hasn't been a problem this month. So I don't want you to think like I'm bitching about it. More just that it had been earlier this season is they didn't hit.

And they didn't hit with runners in scoring position.

That's the bigger one.
