Unfortunately, many Christians do not have a clear picture of who they are.

And because they don't know who they are, we function in ways we were not designed to function once we came to Christ. It's not that you don't

have the right nature, is that you don't fully understand the nature that you do have, that I have.

Paul in Romans chapter 6 wants these believers to have a correct and clear understanding of who they are.

He's concerned that they don't fully understand where they are spiritually

since they've come to Christ and that lack of understanding has led to a whole series of problems or challenges that he himself had the struggle with that he talks about in chapter 7.

He raises the question, what shall we say then?

Are we to continue in sin that grace may increase?

He knew that many of the people he was writing to didn't understand grace.

They looked at grace as a license to sin rather than as a power not to sin. Having stated this,

he now talks about the merger that occurred at salvation.

This is what we want you to understand.

There was a merger.

Something was merged.
