Summary

Today I’m sharing one of the hardest parts of my story—crippling anxiety, years on SSRIs and benzodiazepines, and the painful reality of trying to come off of them. We need to start having honest conversations about trauma, mental health, overprescribed medications, and the hope of real healing. If you or someone you love is struggling, this episode is for you.

that's been quietly destroying lives for literally decades, but almost nobody wants to talk

0:12.1

about it openly. It's a very real, often devastating occurrence in lots of people's lives,

affects there, millions of people are prescribed these every single year. For anxiety, depression, insomnia, you name it. And for some, they feel like a

lifeline, at least at first. But what happens later is what I want to talk about today. What happens when

problems? We're talking about a physical dependence that can set in within weeks, brutal withdrawal

1:02.6

symptoms that can last for months and sometimes even years, neurological damage, acethesia,

1:08.9

relentless, the relentless inner torment that makes people feel like they're kind of crawling

1:13.4

out of their own skin.

1:14.4

Some of you guys may have heard about it, talked about in terms of things like restless

1:18.0

leg syndrome.

1:18.9

And in some cases, injuries that flare up long after the last pill is gone.

1:25.3

I have lived this myself.

1:26.9

If you guys have read any of the books I have written or

1:30.1

listened to my podcast at all in the last 10 years, then you know that this is part of my story.

1:35.2

And today, I'm going to share some more of my personal story, parts of it that maybe I've never

1:40.0

told on the show before. And I'm also going to reference some powerful recent discussions.

1:46.7

One in particular that I listened to just a few days ago from Michaela Peterson. This, of course,

1:51.9

is Jordan Peterson's daughter talking about what's going on with her dad and also what she's been
