| 0:54.4 | straight in and start off with saying what exactly is the menopause and why does |
| 0:59.8 | it happen? The menopause is when your periods end. What happens is your hormones, estrogen and |
| 1:06.6 | progestion which are produced by the ovaries, the ovaries stop producing them. So you're no longer |
| 1:11.6 | fertile, you're no longer able to have children. |
| 1:14.0 | And this typically happens at the age of 51. |
| 1:17.0 | So on average, that's when it happens for most women. |
| 1:21.0 | And what's the main hormonal change that's taking place at this time? |
| 1:24.4 | So what's happening is the hormones that estrogen and progestion which make us women |
| 1:29.1 | effectively, you know it's the ones that sort of kicking in at puberty and give us our curves and our |
| 1:33.2 | periods those hormones decline the overly stop producing it and in that run-up |
| 1:38.4 | leading up to that time which is called a perimenopause those hormones are |
| 1:42.1 | fluctuating so they're diminishing as we get older. |
