We are coming up on the 50th anniversary of the Memphis Sanitation Workers' Strike.

We're voting to strike on February 11, 1968.

Memphis Sanitation Workers stayed off the job starting on the 12th in a strike that lasted

for nine weeks.

This is the strike that brought Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to Memphis, Tennessee,

where he was assassinated on April 4th of that year.

And for a lot of folks, that is really what they know about the strike.

They know it's the reason that Dr. King was in Memphis that day.

But his assassination also really overshadowed the strike itself, which had been going on
