Dietary changes are one of the most powerful ways of reducing our carbon footprint. I mean,

the scale we are talking about is really quite dramatic. I mean, we estimated that if nothing changed,

then there is no way we could avoid dangerous levels of climate change.

Avoiding meat and dairy products is one of the biggest ways we can cut our carbon footprint.

We hear from those who say plant-based burgers and sausages are part of the answer,

and they're not just for vegans.

I can't imagine going down to the pub having a pint, standing at the bar, munching on a bag of carrots.

I'd much rather have a hot dog that's made a look, taste and a like one, because food is about

taste as well.

It's about enjoyment.

Vegetarians and vegans have come a long way since corn and tofu sausages.

These days, there's an ever-increasing range of meat alternatives to choose from.

And often, the aim is to reproduce the taste and texture of meat.

Many believe this is the future of food, particularly given the huge carbon footprint of the meat industry and campaigns to wean us off meat.

So much so that a report by market research future predicts that the market for meat substitute products like vegetarian sausages and burgers will grow to over $9 billion by 2023.

That's up from about $4.5 billion last year.

Leading the way are companies like the Los Angeles-based vegan burger maker Beyond Meat.

Here's its CEO Ethan Brown on what's in its plant-based meat-free burger.

What you're having here is you're having a terrific amino acid profile, you're having no cholesterol, you're having lower saturated fat, no concerns about carcinogens, etc. And so that's what excites me so much about this.
