Welcome to the Feminine podcast. This is Nancy Wilson. Thanks for joining me today. We're now in part three of Martin Lloyd-Jones' book, My Soul Magnifies the Lord. Today we will cover chapter three, which is called the faithfulness of God. This chapter covers verses 54 and 55 in the

Magnificat in Luke 1. He hath hope in his servant Israel in remembrance of his mercy as he spake

to our fathers to Abraham and to his seed forever. The main thing to note in these two verses

is how God remembers and is faithful to all his promises.

He made promises to Abraham, which were fulfilled in the incarnation of Christ.

And this should be a great encouragement to us today.

This sermon, Lloyd Jones, preached to his congregation in 1959, and that world had plenty of troubles in it, just like ours.

And he has three principles to teach us about God's faithfulness in this chapter.

First, God's promises, second, God's method, and third, God's guarantee.

First, God's promises.

By bringing Christ into the world, God fulfilled his great promise of

redemption to Abraham in Genesis 1230, that through Abraham's seed, all the world would be blessed.

This should be a great encouragement to us. Think of the number of times the Lord lifted up the people

and how often he's lifted you up.

He has hope in his servant, Israel.

That word means to succor, to help, to lift up.

Mary knew she was giving birth to a Savior,

the one who was promised to Abraham,

who would bring forgiveness of sins and reconciliation to God.

Jesus says in John 856, Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day, and he saw it and was glad.

So now Mary sees this. She understands, and our author wants us to see it too. This great event is what the whole Old Testament was looking forward to. The Old Testament saints had the promise, and that was all, but that was enough.
