When tough times fall on a nation, or when pressures creep into the church, God looks

for a man or woman who's willing to accept the challenge and lead, sometimes that requires

rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty.

Today, on Insight for Living, Chuck Swindall continues his signature series on leadership

Every major project requires a selfless servant who will work shoulder to shoulder with

the rank and file.

In Nehemiah's case, it meant rebuilding the wall around his city.

Nehemiah has been cast for us in this book in three distinct moles and they take place

progressively.

In the first part of the book, he is the cup bearer.

In the second part of the book, he is the builder.

In the third part of the book, he is the governor of the city of Jerusalem.

Look at the last verse of chapter 1 as we survey this book.

He is praying to God and he says, oh Lord, I beseech thee, may thine ear be attentive

to the prayer of thy servant and the prayer of thy servants who delight to revere thy

name.

Make thy servant successful today and grant him compassion before this man, what man?

The man who was the king over Nehemiah.
