from current affairs, and we've had a number of updates and cases that we've covered in the past.

First today, Brian Walsh, the 48-year-old Massachusetts man, accused of murdering his wife, Anna Walsh,

was stabbed in jail on Thursday night, just weeks before his scheduled murder trial.

Anna Walsh, a 39-year-old real estate professional and mother of three,

vanished on New Year's Day, 2003 from the couple's co-house at home.

Prosecutors alleged Brian killed and dismembered his wife after discovering she was having an affair,

citing evidence including disturbing Google searches

on his son's iPad about body disposal and dismemberment, surveillance footage of him purchasing

cleaning supplies at Home Depot, and blood found in the family's basement. Her body has

never been recovered. The attack occurred Thursday, September 11th, at approximately 9.55 p.m.

in a housing unit at the Norfolk County

Sheriff's Correctional Center in Dedham, where Walsh has been held without bail since January

23. According to his attorney, Larry Tipton, Walsh was stabbed with what authorities described as a

makeshift blunt instrument. Correctional officers immediately intervened to subdue the attacker and render first aid.

Walsh, who was conscious and alert, was transported to Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center in Boston

for treatment of the non-life-threatening injuries and returned to jail overnight. No motive was given.

The assault comes as Walsh's legal team prepares for his October 20th murder trial.

Prosecutors have built their case around an alleged motive involving Anna's 2.7 million life

insurance policy and Brian's desire to avoid prison time for an unrelated art frog conviction
