Summary

Andy and Brendan return after a week together out on the west coast, and they begin with tales of Baker coming back to haunt a survivor pool, birthday party overkill, and an overzealous kids tumbling class enforcer getting in Andy’s kitchen. On golf, they begin with The Match, and its success for the golf geeks everywhere. They praise JT, pan the amount of carts, question how we frame Tiger’s “progress,”ponder whether more of these should replace actual PGA Tour events, and investigate Phil’s odd tweet encouraging folks to watch. The second half of the episode focuses on the New York Times report on LIV’s financial future based on a consulting study, and what that says about the league’s motives and staying power as the PGA Tour tries to further isolate it.

Now the shotgun's starting golf is full of mathematics, there's a lot of a lot of setup work that we have to do in order to make a tournament work, so I'm going to demonstrate to you just exactly how we do a shotgun start here.

And here we go.

All right, all right, all right.

Greetings and welcome to a Monday edition of the shotgun start. It is December 12th. Andy, how are we doing?

0:42.0

Brendan! I'm doing great! Just sitting here out in the shed, listening to the sweet pitter pattering of rain here in central California. Always nice when it's raining out here.

0:56.0

Why? Why is it nice? That doesn't sound nice. Why do you want rain?

1:01.0

They need it. It's for fires, for the drought.

1:05.0

And we were out there together. You and Cameron, you and California's won't stop talking about how much you need the rain, how great it is. I heard that like 25 times. We need the rain.

1:14.0

We need it. They need that rain. I heard that a bunch last week when I was out there with you in San Francisco.

1:20.0

That's caused for a mist-fried episode, by the way. I was flying back Thursday night and you know, cross-country, lose three hours, just like a disaster going west to east.

1:32.0

We didn't have the worst flying that way. It's just to rend us.

1:38.0

I mean, I got up. I'm not even, this is not a complaint. I'm not moaning, woe is me. I'm just stating the facts. I got up at like six local to make this first basketball practice of the year at six p.m. Eastern, six local, six p.m. Eastern.

1:56.0

And it just, I landed with two hours to get there. And like, Dulles was just a disaster. And traffic was a disaster. And I was 15 minutes late. And it's like everything you do, like you with this whole day, you're up at six a.m.

2:09.0

And you're still like, you're not, it's not going to come to fruition because it took, you know, an extra hour to get the people mover to get me from my plane to my car. It's just like it was just a mess. It was a little frustrating. But yeah, it's tough going east to west when you lose all that time.

2:23.0

But basketball is often running. You know, it's not often running anymore. It's my, my survivor pool. I lost that today. We've got a little Cleveland, a lot of Chicagoans in it, by the way.

2:33.0

And the one guy, Pat Hand texted me this morning, texted the group this morning and said, ironically, Baker absolutely nuked half the leak with on Thursday night. All these Clevelanders, just Baker coming back to knock him out of the survivor.

2:50.0

I was sitting pretty, I made a last minute call, quarter to one Eastern today, switched from the Titans who got blown out to the Seahawks.

3:00.0

And there we were, Sam Darnal, I was laughing at these guys, rooting on Baker, taking out everybody. And there we had another 2018 kind of cast away draft class cast away, who just put me, I lost the competition to Baker.

3:15.0

Put me in a body bag and sent me home. And we were so close, we were down to like two guys. All I needed was to get through this week. I had it set up for next week.

3:23.0

You know, I had somebody an easy way next, and I just got bounced. And that's how survivor goes. No one wants to hear about their fantasy team or survivor, but so close to tasting it. Just enjoying the big Mayfield revenge.

3:36.0

You might have been able to retire.
