It's time for the Friday edition of fighting for the faith.

It is Friday, July 10, 2009. And I know many of you have worked hard in your vocations.

Putting in your 40 plus hours a week at the office,

maybe even making less than you were making a year ago

because of the bad economy. Out there commuting to work,

maybe traveling all in order to serve your neighbor and feed your family.

And I thank you all for the work that you are doing.

By the way, that is the definition of a good work.

Those of you who think that a good work is something you know something

spiritual no thessalonians makes it clear that we are to quietly work with our

hands and provide for ourselves and not be a burden to others and use

our use the money that we earn in our vocations even to help the poor.

In fact that's a critical thing for us to be doing, not because we have to, but because

we have been shown such great mercy in Jesus Christ and through his shed blood on the

cross, we've received mercy and forgiveness of sins from him and he has so richly blessed us with his blessings that we have been transformed so radically raised from the dead that we can't help but also share

that mercy with other people in tangible ways in ways that also include our checkbooks.
