Welcome to Rates and barrels, it's Friday, January 9th, Derek and Riper here with Enosaris on this episode.

We get caught up on some baseball news. You should know the Edward Cabrera trade is official. We know the return. We'll dig into what the Marlins got back. How interesting that group of players is. I think we're to try and tackle a question about the NFL Central. Who has the best pitching staff in that division right now? It's actually pretty close, at least between four of those five teams.

We've got a great fantasy prep question we're going to dig into about things we have learned over the years and how we've adjusted and what's helped us the most as we've kind of entered the harder core part of fantasy baseball prep season. And a little bit later on the show,

Amir Garrett joins us to talk about his offseason, get into some advanced stats as he's

looking for his next major league opportunity. So, you know, before we get into all of that,

how is it going for you on this Friday? It's going well.

I have very few plans for the weekend, although my youngest has his first scrimmage of spring baseball season.

So here we go.

Spring baseball season?

Man, just playing by your own rules out there.

I guess so.

It's a little cold. I say that. I know. I know. Sorry. I'm sorry. It's been a little warm here the last couple of days, which just means all the snow melted in the backyard is a sponge. No, it's actually well above freezing right now, but it's not

not good. It's still nasty out there. Yeah, it's going to dip again and it's all going to freeze

again, so I'm looking forward to that as part of my weekend. But hey, you know, that's what I signed up

for. Let's dig into the Edward Cabrera trade. The return is now known.

Owen Casey, Christian Hernandez and Eduardo de Leon going back to the Marlins.

Casey, of course, on our radar because he debuted with the Cubs in 2025 and looked like he was going to have some kind of role on the big league team in 26 if this trade hadn't happened.

But now his path to playing time looks a lot

more stable in Miami, whereas with the Cubs, it might have been obvious big side platoon and

possible competition for playing time between the outfield and DH spots where he can play.

He gets a pretty clean runway for the Marlins.
