Last episode, we heard from Hemi in a police interview. We ended with Hemi's arrest.

Today, we will follow the police as they map Hemi's movements on the day of the murder.

Before we get there though, let's jump to Hemi's initial court appearance.

It's Wednesday, January 5th.

Hemi exits a patrol car and walks toward the Decalbe County Courthouse.

His posture bent by the shackles wrapped around his waist and hands.

Surrounding the courthouse are reporters and TV cameras. An arrest in this case is big news.

Hemi sits down and listens while a judge outlines his charges. Let's jump in with the judge.

The judge informed Hemi that he had been charged with the offensive murder.

What the defendant did with malice forethought caused the death of Russell Snydermann, a human being by shooting the victim.

When he showed no emotion, he looked only at the judge, ignoring the crowd of journalists in the courtroom behind him.

The media pool video camera to his right. He asked the judge a couple of questions in a calm, quiet voice.

Among them was a request for a lawyer.

The brief hearing ended with Hemi being denied bail. He was led back into the parking lot as the camera meant swarmed.

It was a cold, grey morning, the wind blowing in the microphones.
