IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT TODAY’S SHOW: HEY GUYS... I wanted to give you a heads up and some insight into the next TJCS in the morning. So here we go...You guys know I decided not to do a video of any kind on the day Chadwick Boseman passed. I just felt there was nothing meaningful to say that everyone didn't already know or feel. The next day on our regularly scheduled Open Mic show, we talked a lot about the career of Boseman and I said that we weren't going to talk about "what's next" for Black Panther or anything because even though I think those are legitimate and important questions to discuss, I felt it needed at least a couple of days and we could always address those things on Monday (3 days after his passing).So on Monday's TJCS while we'll spend most of our time reflecting on Boseman's contribution to cinema and his legacy, we will at least spend a portion of time addressing a couple of important "what now?" questions many are asking about. Here's why...1) Chadwick helped bring a character to life that was an inspiration to literally hundreds of millions of people around the world and was a catalyst for cultural discourse. T'Challa isn't just another superhero. For millions of people, he is the first title hero in this modern age of comic-book movies that made them feel included. A hero that (as many have written to me to express) "looked like me". T'Challa as a character broke open the floodgates in terms of the perception of what kinds of heroes can be successful. To ask "how is this legacy going to be stewarded moving forward" is not just "acceptable" to ask now, but vital.2) To ask "what do they do now" is a testimony to the importance he had and the impact he made in the biggest and most beloved stories being told right now on the big screen. Boseman was no small cog in the machine. His loss shakes the foundational perception millions of fans have regarding these stories and where it can go now in his absence.3) To be blunt, you can’t truly talk about Chadwick's legacy and what this character, T'Challa, means to people without at least addressing how that legacy will be approached moving forward.4) To be practical, TJCS is a movie show. The reality is, if Aaron Rogers tragically passed away on Tuesday, by Friday the sports networks and football-themed shows would NEED to start discussing and asking "what do the Green Bay Packers do now?" because Rogers alone was just that important to that team and what their immediate future was. As a movie show, as the biggest franchise in movies, as one of the most important stars in those movies... these are questions that I feel we should talk about.Look, I understand that there are people who feel that the topic of "what happens now?" isn't something anyone should talk about for a month/year/decade. I respect that, but I also disagree. And so, there will be a portion of the show Monday that we will. If you are uncomfortable with that, then with the deepest respect I suggest you don't tune in.Anyway, I just thought it only fair to give you a heads up.
