Last week I talked about the first half of the Lord's Prayer, which is what we might call

the heavenly part.

The older I get, the more convinced I am that this prayer comprises everything that I

want to pray.

Now there were many years when I did not understand that.

I learned the prayer when I was probably two.

Since my father had all of us children repeated every morning and in family prayers, we rattled

it off without consciousness or interest in what it meant.

But our parents were wise in their belief that it's a good idea to stuff your children's

heads full of stuff that's worth keeping.

And since their little heads are amazing, almost miraculous in their power to memorize,

we memorize thousands of Bible verses and hymns and the Lord's Prayer without any effort

whatsoever.
