Summary

We are back again with Chase & Josh today where we cover and compare some of the major differences between Part 1 of the extended edition film The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers to its novel counterpart. This one is going to be a little different as the film shifts perspective early and often in an order that does not coincide with the book, so we had some fun putting this together. Stick around as we highlight some of the key differences between the movie and book such as; Éomer's banishment from Rohan, Frodo's mishap in the Marshes, Gandalf freeing Théoden's mind, Sam and Frodo's arguments, and Sméagol gaining a level of freedom. With giving the film a numeric grade, detailing moments and key changes that stood out to each, discussing potential alterings to a few plot points that could arise due to a couple differences, and talking about certain things each enjoyed more from a film perspective, don't miss out! "Now Théoden son of Thengel, will you hearken to me?" said Gandalf. "Do you ask for help?" He lifted his staff and pointed to a high window. There the darkness seemed to clear, and through the opening could be seen, high and far, a patch of shining sky. "Not all is dark. Take courage, Lord of the Mark; for better help you will not find. No counsel have I to give to those that despair. Yet counsel I could give, and words I could speak to you. Will you hear them? They are not for all ears. I bid you come out before your doors and look abroad. Too long have you sat in shadows and trusted to twisted tales and crooked promptings." Slowly Théoden left his chair.

So really excited to jump into that there.

It's one of our favorite things that we do here is really kind of detailing some of the key things that

0:54.0

change throughout when you're reading something through the original author through a film adaptation.

0:59.2

And so there's a lot of great stuff that that goes down here. I will say, you know, we talked about it a little bit. It just

1:05.1

changes perspective so much so we kind of had to do the differences between the film and the

1:11.2

novel for the two towers all at the end just because it doesn't

1:14.3

add up right and you'll see what we're talking about here in just a little bit because I made a

1:18.1

notation every single time that it changed perspectives between photo and Sam and then

1:22.1

Legales and Aragorna G Gimli and then Marion Pippin.

1:24.6

So it was a fun weaving in and out of trying to remember and go back and really get to the crux of the bigger

1:31.6

differences throughout this first bar here so it's

1:33.8

gonna be a fun one but before we get start I'll turn it over to Chase to say a few

1:36.5

words and then we'll dive right into it. Yeah man I enjoyed it. We'll talk

1:41.8

about that towards the end of this episode about this part

1:44.2

one but I thought they've done a great job so far in the movies I've seen and some

1:49.1

interesting takes on some things we'll talk about today but I'll turn it back over to you and let you get us started.

1:55.8

All right, sounds like a plan, dude. So we just kind of go over through a quick recap we finished up the two towers the novel

2:04.7

completely yesterday or I'm sorry last week and we were able to kind of cover all the

2:10.2

big things that happen on the Froto and Sam side of stuff and so some of the things that
