Summary

We were about to publish this episode... and then the Home Secretary resigned. It came amidst a backdrop of a day in which an embattled prime minister had to face a series of tough questions from members of her own party, and the party opposite, at Prime Minister's Questions.

The chaos in British politics continues.

And we always said on this podcast that we would be really transparent and open with you and show our workings

about how the news is made. And we recorded the podcast this afternoon as normal and we were

because not long after Prime Minister's questions, we heard that the PM, who was due to be making a factory visit with all the press there and she was going to do a broadcast interview clip, suddenly pulled

out. We were told by a Downing Street that it had all been laid on but she wasn't going to be

1:06.3

doing it anymore and they'd said just this morning that it was going to be on. And so obviously

everyone's

1:17.8

and icy the atmosphere has been, lots of speculation about is Liz Trust going to resign and all

1:23.4

this sort of stuff. And it turns out, no, she was actually talking to her home secretary

1:28.5

about her resignation. Now, as I say, details of this are still emerging. But it seems that the

1:35.3

technical reason for the resignation is around a breach of the rules on a security matter. And I've

1:43.9

just got in my hand, it's just been

1:45.0

tweeted out by Suella Braverman, her letter to Liz Trust explaining why she's resigned.
